Above-The-Knee Prosthetic Services
Biotech Industries, LTD is also certified to fit the newest innovations in above-the-knee prosthetics. Both the Otto Bock "C-Leg", which is worn by one of our practitioners, and the Ossur "Rheo Knee," are microprocessor-controlled knee units. The on-board computer "reads" the patients gait and adjusts automatically to changes in speed, slope, and overall cadence. Finally, above-the-knee amputees do not have to think about walking when they walk.
Additionally, we are certified to fit the Vacuum Assisted above-the-knee sockets, which is a double walled socket design that provides above-the-knee amputees with a level of comfort that previously was unavailable. This system manages residual limb-volume through a vacuum system that results in significantly more comfort and control for the above-knee amputee. When using the vacuum assisted socket, the amputee experiences a feeling that the prosthesis feels lighter in weight.
Below-The-Knee Prosthetic Services
For below-the-knee amputees, Biotech Industries, LTD is certified to fit the "Harmony System" from Otto Bock. This system also manages limb-volume loss through a vacuum system for the below-the-knee amputee and results in significantly more comfort and fewer adjustments. We also use an assortment of liner and shuttle-lock combinations that fit the needs of each individuals.
Orthotic Services
The field of custom orthotics devices involves the clinical appropriateness of external support. This may involve any part of the body or body joint. The goal is to support, assist and/or protect those body parts.
Our certified clinicians work in conjunction with the patient's doctor and/or therapist to design and construct the best device for each patient's unique condition and situation. This may include anything from custom fabricated arch supports to braces for the knee, spine, shoulder or arm. At Biotech Industries, we custom mold our devices to get the most exact fit. We use the most lightweight, but high-strength materials to fabricate braces that are both functional and comfortable. We also provide ongoing follow-up for our patient's orthotic device as conditions may change over time.
Pediatrics At Biotech
Biotech Industries, LTD has certified staff that are devoted exclusively to pediatrics. We feel this is important because children have very specialized needs and need someone who understands and has the expertise to treat their individual situation. We specialize in treating the orthotic needs of children with cerebral palsy, spina bifida and other congenital development problems.
We also service children with needs arising from spinal cord injury, head injury, trauma and spinal deformities. Many types of foot and ankle disorders are also treated, primarily for patients with high tone and spasticity.
Our staff also has expertise in fitting cranial remolding orthoses used to treat children with deformational plagiocephaly, brachycephaly, scaphocephaly, and other head shape deformities. For children who need prosthetics, we will fabricate lightweight functional devices that will allow the child to perform virtually every activity they care to be involved in. Our services include clinical evaluation in conjunction with the prescribing physician and/or the primary physical or occupational therapist. The goal is to optimize the child’s mobility, function and comfort.
