Transfemoral
A Transfemoral prosthesis is a prosthesis designed for use by those with an amputation above the knee. Since the knee is a complex part of the human skeletal system, transfemoral joints are generally much more complicated than transtibial prostheses, as they must include a knee joint.
Types of knee joints for tranfemoral prosthesis are used to utilse biomechanical function. The main types of knee units are polycentric, which have a four bar linkage and allow for a batter centre of rotation like a normal knee joint. Unicentric knee units are less complex and cost a lot less than compared to ploycentric knees units.
